Mother’s Day remains one of the key occasions for Thailand’s restaurant industry, as Thai families traditionally celebrate by taking mothers and family members out for meals to spend quality time together and create meaningful memories. The Thai Restaurant Association noted that Mother’s Day is among the busiest periods for restaurants, with many venues operating at full capacity. Meanwhile, data from KTC, or Krungthai Card Public Company Limited, showed that on Mother’s Day 2025, the restaurant category ranked No. 1 in KTC credit card spending, with spending 80% higher than the average on regular days. This underscores the role of restaurants as a key spending destination during family-oriented occasions.

Mrs. Thaniwan Kulmongkol, President of the Thai Restaurant Association, said Mother’s Day is an important period for the restaurant industry, as it is an occasion when family members often gather and dining out becomes one of the main ways to express love and spend time together. As a result, restaurants typically see a significant increase in customers compared with regular days, particularly family restaurants, hotel restaurants, and dining venues suitable for family celebrations, with many reaching full capacity.

Ms. Varitta Phatanarajta, Head of Credit Card Marketing Division at KTC, said KTC credit card spending data shows that restaurants remain a key spending category during the Mother’s Day period. On August 12, 2025, the restaurant category ranked No. 1 in KTC credit card spending, with spending 80% higher than the average on regular days. This reflects consumers’ continued willingness to spend on shared family experiences, particularly dining out on special occasions.

“For Mother’s Day 2026, although consumers have more spending choices under the ‘Thais Help Thais Plus: 60/40’ co-payment scheme, KTC still expects credit card spending in the restaurant category to grow by approximately 5% year-on-year, in line with its target, as restaurants remain a key destination for families to spend time together. At the same time, members are placing greater emphasis on value for money, including the use of accumulated points to redeem discounts or cashback. This reflects more selective spending behavior, while consumers remain willing to spend on important occasions that are meaningful to their families,” Ms. Varitta said.

To celebrate Mother’s Day month, KTC has partnered with 120 restaurants to offer special privileges for KTC credit cardmembers and KTC PROUD cash cardmembers, covering family restaurants, hotel restaurants, and leading dining establishments. Members can enjoy discounts of up to 10% or redeem 3,699 KTC FOREVER points for a THB 500 discount or cashback with a minimum spending of THB 1,000 per sales slip, subject to applicable terms and conditions. Additional privileges are also available at leading hotel dining venues, including buffet and international restaurants, with discounts of up to 50% and no point redemption required.
