As companion animals are increasingly considered part of the family - Thailand is seeing growing interest in advanced veterinary healthcare solutions.  Against this backdrop, Krungthai Card Public Company Limited (KTC) has partnered with PetGeneX, Thailand’s first dedicated pet stem cell banking service, to expand access to regenerative veterinary technology for pet owners seeking long-term health planning for their beloved companions.

Veterinary Science Responds to Longer Pet Lifespans

Dr. Chaiyot Tanrattana, Founder and Advisor of PetGeneX, revealed that “Pets are living longer due to improved nutrition and veterinary care, but chronic conditions—such as musculoskeletal diseases, kidney and liver degeneration, inflammatory disorders and age-related neurological issues—are also becoming more prevalent. Modern pet healthcare must meet standards comparable to human medicine,” he said. “Healthy pets contribute to a happier family life. PetGeneX is committed to raising the bar for veterinary innovation and supporting the long-term sustainability of Thailand’s pet healthcare ecosystem.”

How Pet Stem Cell Banking Works

PetGeneX operates as a specialized pet stem cell bank, providing cell separation, cultivation and long-term cryogenic storage under ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 13485:2016 certified laboratory standards. Stem cells can be preserved for up to 20 years, with quality control reports issued for each case to ensure safety and clinical viability.

The service currently offers three biological sources for stem cell banking:

  • Peripheral blood, a proprietary, minimally invasive method requiring no surgery, anesthesia or medication;
  • Adipose tissue, ideal for pets undergoing routine surgical procedures;
  • Umbilical cord, offering the highest purity and regenerative potential for long-term health planning.

Early Clinical Outcomes Show Promise

According to PetGeneX’s internal clinical observations, regenerative treatments using stored stem cells have shown encouraging outcomes in veterinary practice.  More than 70% of dogs with osteoarthritis show improved mobility and reduced reliance on pain medication; 50–60% of cats with chronic kidney disease show functional improvement within three to six months; and pets with inflammatory skin or allergic conditions often improve within one to two months. Overall, over 80% of treated cases report enhanced quality of life, including increased energy, appetite, coat condition and play behavior.

Research and Infrastructure Behind the Technology

Dr. Phongsakorn Kunhorm, Biotechnology researcher and co-founder of PetGeneX, described the cryobank as a form of “future health assurance” for pets. He emphasized that stem cell preservation requires not only advanced science, but also transparency and strict ethics. “Owners must be confident that the cells stored today will be viable and safe when needed in the future,”

Associate Professor Parinya NoisaInnovation Advisor of PetGeneX, added that Northeastern Science Park 2 plays a pivotal role in bringing research into real-world application. He highlighted the importance of automated systems and robust monitoring to safeguard stem cell integrity throughout long-term storage.
