“Children can get diabetes too?” is a question that often arises in most people who see pictures of small children, school-age children, or adolescents with diabetes who have to carry insulin syringes and inject themselves several times a day.
Type 1 diabetes is caused by the bodily reaction against the cells of the pancreas that produce insulin leading to severe insulin deficiency. There is no cure. Patients must be consistently cared for throughout life with 3-4 daily insulin injections and blood samples. This disease can be found in people of all ages, and commonly found among children and teenagers. However, with proper and continuous care patients can study and work like healthy people.
- On average children and teenagers who are type 1 diabetic patients have to draw blood and get over 1,460 injections annually.
- The cost of essential equipment for children with type 1 diabetes is 13,000 Baht per year = 1 quality life.
KTC invites cardmembers to jointly donate to give new lives to diabetic patients and help “type 1 diabetes” patients who are in need to have access to treatment, and to grow up healthy to become future productive members of society.
