Spending in the car rental category in the first 6 months grew by 90% and KTC forecasts that this trend will continue to grow until the end of the year. Miss Varitta Phatanarajta, Head of Credit Card Marketing Division, “KTC”orKrungthai Card Public Company Limited,stated that the winding down of the COVID-19 situation and the reopening of the country to welcome tourists had resulted in Thai tourism return to recovery. This is a supporting factor for the car rental industry to grow in the same direction. The total spending in the car rental category during January and June 2023grew by 90% from 2022and is expected to continue to grow until the end of the year. In the second half of the year, KTC forecasts that high-season travel will be the spending driver for the rental car category.
“Currently, the car rental industry is recovering in line with tourism. We expect that it will continue to grow in the second half of the year as this period is the high season in Thailand. Foreign tourists who travel to Thailand love to rent a car, both self-drive or with a driver. These are great factors that’ll help the car rental industry grow,” said Miss Varitta.
Regarding KTC, there are partner promotions with 17 leading domestic and international car rental service providers,along with special promotions such asup to 30% discountupon car rentals with a KTC credit card or12% cash back redemption with KTC FOREVER points equal to spending amount.
“Nowadays, EV car rentals are becoming more and more popular. The proportion of normal car rentals is 80% and EV cars 20% due to their low rental price, such as the Ora Good Cat electric car model from Hertz Thailand. Cardmembers can also use KTC credit cards to get a 30% discount and enjoy the rental at 707 baht from 1,010 baht. However, there are still limitations for EV cars and it is recommended for tourists in Bangkok and its vicinity where cardmembers can easily find a charger.”
