In addition to the Tokyo Summer Olympics 2020, which will be held in July, Tokyo will also host another equally important event. The Tokyo Marathon, which will be held on March 1st, is one tournament of the World Major Marathon series (held in Tokyo, Boston, Chicago, New York, London, and Berlin) for which the city is closed down to host this running event. It is also certified by the World Athletics Association to be awarded with the Platinum Label or the highest standard that only 7 marathon events have received. With this level of greatness, many Thai runners really would love to run at this event. Knowing this, it is time to learn more of this major marathon!

1. There are 2 running laps, the mini half-marathon and the marathon routes. However, only the marathon race has been certified by World Athletics.

2. There were 37,952 people participating in this event in 2019, divided into 37,694 marathon runners and 348 mini half-marathon runners. The marathon participants were divided further into groups of General Runners, Semi-Elite, Elite, Wheelchair, and Elite Wheelchair. The mini half marathon program can be divided into groups of Adolescents Under 18 Years of Age, Visually Impaired, Intellectually Challenged, Organ Transplant Recipients, and Wheelchair runners.

3. Tokyo Marathon routes pass through many landmarks and districts in Tokyo. The marathon goes from Tokyo City Hall - Lidbashi area - Kanda area - Nihombashi area - Kaminarimon Gate, Asakusa Temple - Ryogoku area - Monzen Nakacho area - Ginza area - Takanawa area - Hibiya area and ends at Tokyo Station.

4 Tokyo Marathon attracts a large number of participants causing the runners to be screened by a lottery round for general entry before entering the tournament. All Thai people can participate by applying through the website to fill out your personal information, shirt size, and your expected time to finish your run. After the application is completed, a confirmation email will be sent, and then you have to wait for the lottery results to determine whether or not you will be eligible for the event. The participation results will usually be announced at the end of September.

5. Before the main event, there are other 3 small running events for you to warm up: Tokyo Marathon Friendship Run 2020, Tokyo Marathon 1MILEs 2020, and Tokyo Marathon Family Run 2020.

6. There is a shopping expo, Tokyo Marathon EXPO 2020, which offers a large collection of running equipment for general runners and participants of the marathon which will be held 3 days prior to the marathon, from 27th -29th February, and on the last day only the marathon participants will be allowed to enter this event. This year, this event will be held at the Tokyo Metropolitan Central Wholesale Market "Toyosu Market Block 6". Interested parties can attend for free.
