Today we have 3 running routes that will give you a great view of Mount Fuji. For runners, to be able to run and enjoy the scenery at the same time will definitely be fantastic. In the Fuji five lakes area, these 3 routes, from easy to hard difficulties, are recommended for running. Let’s get to know them!


Route 1: Mishima Skywalk
Distance: 400 meters
Difficulty level:Mishima Skywalk is a viewpoint for both runners and general tourists at a distance of 400 meters. This route is suitable for all ages. The distance might seem short, but it is another interesting destination as Mishima Skywalk is actually the longest suspension bridge in Japan. Additionally, Mishima Skywalk also offers a beautiful view from over 70 meters high above the ground where visitors can admire the beauty of Mount Fuji and Saruga Bay in the distance without being obscured by any trees or buildings at all.
Apart from being a good place to run and take in the view of Fujisan, Mishima Skywalk also offer several activities for your traveling companions. For café lovers, there is the “Forest Café” that serves Mishima Croquet, Nishima's unique croquette. For adventure lovers, there is also the “Forest Adventure Zone”, which is an outdoor activity zone for people who like to climb and glide in the middle of the forest. There is even a buggy car rental service called “Go Go Buggy” for drivers to drive through and explore the surrounding forest.


Route 2: Kawaguchiko Lake
Distance: About 5 kilometers
Difficulty level:Lake Kawaguchiko is a great spot for photographers who want to capture the beauty of Mount Fuji reflected on the water surface. Although it is one of the five Fuji Five Lakes, Kawaguchiko's uniqueness is that it is easiest lake to travel to, as you can go there by either trains or buses from Tokyo.
Aside from the beauty of Mount Fuji’s reflection, Lake Kawaguchiko is also known as the running trail of the FUJISAN Marathon, which follows a route of the roads around Lake Kawaguchiko and Lake Saiko, another one of Fuji’s five lakes, making a total distance of 42.195 kilometers.
For runners on general days, you can run and enjoy the view of Mount Fuji on the walkway around Lake Kawaguchiko on any day with a distance of about 5 kilometers for the lake cutting route. Along the way, there are also several interesting checkpoints for you to stop by such as Ubuyagasaki Shrine, Fujiomurosenga Shrine, and Oishi Park. There are also resting points at restaurants and cafes around the lake.


Route 3: Mount Mitsutoge
Distance: About 15 kilometers
Difficulty level:Mitsutoge is a classic Mount Fuji scenic route for those who love to travel off the beaten track. In order to go up Mitsutoge Mountain, it is necessary to go pass Tenjo Mountain, which you can hike on your own or take the Fuji Panorama Ropeway to the top of Mount Tenjo, which is the starting point of the Mitsuzen Pass to go up the Mitsutoge Mountain with a distance of about 15 kilometers via a steep and narrow path through the woods.
On your way up the mountain, there are many resting spots for you to stop and fully appreciate the breathtaking view of Fujisan. Apart from the views, there are also various enjoyable spots for travelers such as Komitake Shrine, Usagi Shrine, and the heart-shaped Tenjo Bell.
When you reach the highest point of the mountain, there will be a resting area often used as a lunch spot for nature explorers where you can admire Fujisan from a height of 1,789 meters. In addition, at this view point you can see a 360 degree view of the town of Kawaguchiko. For those who want to immerse themselves in the beauty of nature for a longer time, there is also accommodation provided.
After going up the hill, what follows is going back down, which tourists can choose to do by walking back the same way or by taking a different route. This route, which apart from offering the view from Fujisan, is where you can find many old tourist spots such as Daruma-ishi, the sculptures of 88 Jizo, and a small waterfall. Keep walking down and the trail will end at Mitsutoge Station, marking the end of your foot journey.
